Week Two

This week was a lot more busy than last. I finally got in depth into the research part of my project. I started the week by finishing all of the controls of the Ring Smart Doorbell. Next I went through and found tutorials, videos, and web pages with information on other smart doorbell that I can compare to the Ring. Once I was done with researching the other devices I met with Madiha in order to figure out how to sort the controls. The divisions were Data Collection, Data Storage, Access Control, and Generic Controls. This took some time because I had to first understand which each of the sections would consist of then I had to go through and decide where each control fit. Once I finalize all of the doorbell data I am supposed to start planning for the trials. The other experience that I will have this week is that I have a tutorial in the maker space on Friday. I am extremely excited and can not wait to make my cat like everyone else did.

What I Hope

My name is Amanda and I am doing research at UNCC in usable data and privacy. I have learned all about smart devices. Also, I have started learning all about Rings, a smart doorbell. At Winthrop I am unable to expand outside of my comfort zone, due to lack in resources. My main hope is to explore new technology, and improve my computer science skills this summer. My research has already allowed me to expand by learning about Human-Computer Interaction. I am hoping to have time to explore the 3D printer and other technology in the maker space. I am hoping to learn more about research and the process of doing research. I want to have the ability to start my own research later in life.
